A collection of Sukajan jackets by Y's and Tailor Toyo was announced in "Y's 1972." The lineup include Sukashirts was expanded to reproduce the embroidery found on the Sukajans,
A shirt with Sukajan embroidery. The tiger embroidery of "Y's 1972 SUKAJAN" is reproduced on the chest and back. Based on the design of a particularly rare vintage piece in Tailor Toyo's collection, the shirt is made in black, and the tiger's stripes and dynamic body are expressed using only the three-dimensionality of the embroidery.
While retaining distinctive elements such as the action pleats on the back reminiscent of old Sukashirts, the length has been extended, and the silhouette adjusted to a Y's-like shape, allowing air to flow between the body and the garment.
The collaboration pieces, created as part of the "Kokosho Label" special editions that reproduce the finest pieces from Tailor Toyo's collection with meticulous attention to detail, are labelled with the name "KOSHO & CO., Kosho Shokai", the predecessor of Tailor Toyo.
Tailor Toyo "Tailor Toyo" is a Sukajan brand of Toyo Enterprises. Toyo Enterprises' predecessor, Kosho & Co., was founded in the 1940s after the war and was involved in the import and export of fabrics and other goods. During the post-war period, an employee of Kosho & Co. came up with the idea of a souvenir jumper with oriental embroidery after witnessing American soldiers looking for traditional Japanese items such as kimonos and obi as souvenirs at the street stalls around Ginza. This was the moment when the garment that originated in Japan, now known as "Sukajan", was born. Tailor Toyo, which started as Kosho and has been making souvenir jackets for over half a century, is the original creator of the Sukajan and has inherited the Sukajan as a culture.
"Y's SUKASHIRT" will be available for purchase at all stores in Japan and the official online boutique from Friday, May 24th.
