In 1950, painter Genichiro Inokuma produced "Hana Hiraku" as a pattern for Mitsukoshi's wrapping paper. The innovative design of the soft, rounded abstract shapes drawn in Schiaparelli red is the most iconic motif of Mitsukoshi, and continues to be loved to this day as the very first wrapping paper for a Japanese department store.

The symbolic "Hana Hiraku" was selected as a motif to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Mitsukoshi's founding, and the modern and advanced world view of "Hana Hiraku" that remained unchanged since its birth in 1950, is exclusively realized in "black". .
