The clothing out on the streets, invading the city──
The photos taken by Max Vadukul in Paris visualize in images the strength and the lively activeness of Y's. The fusion of sophistication and casual nuances. All made extraordinary, it is the image of a vibrant everyday life.

Y's A/W 2023-2024 collection was shot by Max Vadukul on the Bir-Hakeim bridge in Paris. This series of photographs will be shown in Tokyo and New York on September 30th, and in Paris on October 2nd.

Vadukul shot Y's for 6 consecutive seasons, from S/S 1999 to A/W 2001-2002 and established an iconic image for the brand. He is a photographer who knows what is crucial for the image-building of Y's, and the mutual affinity between Y's and him bring them back together again with each other’s profound interpretation and reciprocal respect.

Introduced by art director Marc Ascoli in 1983, Vadukul shot the A/W 1984-1985 collection in New York. Later, he shot Y's S/S 1999 collection and went on creating the images for 6 consecutive seasons.

Vadukul, the renowned photographer who was born in Africa is also of Indian descent. He was the New Yorker magazine’s second staff photographer, taking over the venerated position first occupied by Richard Avedon, and for years his fashion photography also dominated the covers of important magazines. He helped establish a distinctive image for Y's.

Y's, by Max Vadukul’s emblematic black & white photography, is impressive and strong.

Its expression depicted in the pictures taken on the streets, has a sense of universality that remained unchanged for 50 years of clothing-making.

The Installation
Each of the 3 sites, Y's Omotesando in Tokyo, Y's/Yohji Yamamoto Louvre in Paris and Yohji Yamamoto New York Wooster will have its own specific way to present the photography installation.

Tokyo/Y's OMOTESANDO
The crisp black & white pictures taken by Vadukul will be spread between Y's Omotesando’s ground floor and its basement, including the open staircase. In Tokyo, the installation will focus on an exhibition of photographs, in the authentic sense of the word. Y's Omotesando is the flagship store in Japan, located in the heart in Omotesando district in Tokyo. Its large window is like a painting frame showcasing the Y's world onto the streets.

Paris/Y's Yohji Yamamoto LOUVRE
An exclusive video edit of “Y's MAX VADUKUL, PARIS 2023” will be presented simultaneously in all three stores in Tokyo, Paris and New York, however the Paris installation will have a special focus on it. The video footage will create a unique atmosphere on the two floors of the Y's Yohji Yamamoto Louvre boutique.

New York/Yohji Yamamoto New York Wooster
Located on Wooster street in the Soho area, “Yohji Yamamoto New York Wooster” opened on September 1st. The New York installation will consist of a special showcase of Vadukul’s photographs on impressive LED panels. With its 25m wide windows, Yohji Yamamoto New York Wooster will display this artistic content onto the streets of the City.

With these different approaches, and with each store’s respective concept, VADUKUL’s interpretation of Y's will reveal itself.

The Y's MAX VADUKUL Collection
Along with the installation of the photographs, we will present Y's MAX VADUKUL capsule collection.

Photography and clothing. A capsule collection that will resonate with the monochrome photographs. The collection is composed of T-shirts, hoodies and bags. Vadukul interprets Y's in his photos, and Y's re-interprets them within its collections. The creation process becomes a source of inspiration and the monochrome world of Vadukul and Y's bewitches us.

Y's MAX VADUKUL Book
The powerful images are recollected in a special book by the creative director Claudio Dell’olio. Categorically printed in a book with Vadukul’s graphical aesthetics, such as the vivid red binding or the bold layout, its glossy black & white pictures are seizing the very moment. Clothing, people, cities, the unwavering elements that shape Y's energy emanate from the various creations that will be available in each store during the installation.

– The limited edition special book will be offered to customers in each store under certain conditions.

“Y's MAX VADUKUL PARIS 2023” photo installation will be held from September 30th to October 31st at Y's Omotesando in Tokyo, at Y's Yohji Yamamoto Louvre in Paris from October 2nd to 31st, and at Yohji Yamamoto New York Wooster in New York from September 30th to October 15th.
