Y's 1972 – Y's PORTRAIT – Y's OMOTESANDO
The Y's 1972 installation will be on display at Y's Omotesando until Thursday 23 March.
At the installation, Y's x Adidas will be on show as the latest addition to the Y's 1972 capsule collections. Portraits of Utaha, Kanichiro, and YONCE (Suchmos) will also be on view.
Pieces from the collections, photographs and iconic Yohji Yamamoto motifs will be arranged in the space.
"Y's PORTRAIT" is a collection of photographs of clothing and people being released throughout 2022/2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Y's. Y’s 1972 and Y’s x adidas are worn by Utaha, Kanichiro and YONCE (Suchmos).
To assume a role; to perform; to create an alias; to be the person that you are, but with a certain anonymity; to fulfill your own existence...
Kanichiro stands clinging on to his true intentions.
YONCE (Suchmos) presents himself without hesitation. He stands up and heads toward the source of creation.
With a forward thinking attitude, Utaha runs boldly into the present age.
The neon sign that has become the symbol of Y's Omotesando will be replaced by a Y's x adidas sign. Follow the iconic flip disc screen down to the basement floor...
Hoodies depict vivid cactus flower motifs designed by Y's alongside the iconic trefoil logo. Iconic and unique, active and modern - and with a classic touch.
The trefoil was used as the Adidas logo from 1972 to 1995. It was inspired by the laurel wreath, which was awarded to triumphant athletes in ancient Greece.
The new Adidas logo is of course the iconic three stripes. The "Y" in the "Y's" logo also consists of three lines, or perhaps two lines coming together to form one.
Y’s 1972 – Y’s x adidas are worn by three different people: Utaha, Kanichiro and YONCE (Suchmos). Why are you here? Be intentional and resilient. You are the only person who can express who you really are.
We all have a certain strength that our everyday lives give shape to. Quiet thoughts turn into declarations through outbursts of creativity.
